Sangita Nayak
Sangita Nayak spends her days facilitating learning with children at MPS Fernwood Montessori, as an upper elementary teacher. She is guided by the children’s vision and organizes in community, so staff, students, and families can push for the world they deserve. Prior to her current teaching, she served as Principal at Penfield Montessori, affiliated with Penfield Childrens Center. Sangita also served as the Assistant Principal for Riley Montessori where she initiated a successful K8 dual language Montessori school in her bilingual neighborhood. Grounded in social justice and facilitating learning, Sangita has worked alongside colleagues at 9to5 National Association of Working Women as lead organizer for Paid Sick Days, The Praxis Project where she organized KIN to amplify Gulf voices post-Katrina, and the Hmong American Women’s Association, confronting refugee worker exploitation in Milwaukee. She consulted for groups such as The Sikh Coalition in the aftermath of the Oak Creek Tragedy, Freedom Inc. during the State Capitol takeover, and The Virginia Center for Inclusion to facilitate teachers greater understanding of immigrant families. Her work is about growing people-power in community and spinning networks to create a better world.
