Featured Youth Experience:
The Art of Creating Freedom
Since 2023, YWCA Madison has made it a goal to include more youth voices within the Racial Justice Summit offerings, with one of the biggest additions being a youth-led art co-creation that invites both youth and educators to process their emotions through artistic expression.
In collaboration with Mya Williams, Sam Jeschke, Dr. Micah-Jade Stanback, Rudy Bankston, and youth facilitators from Bayview Community Center, this year will build on previous years with a featured youth experience centered on “The Art of Creating Freedom.” Youth and educators will explore several forms of media, including painting, music production, and written poetry, to co-create an art exhibition centered on what freedom looks like, sounds like, and feels like for individuals and as a community. The session will conclude with a showcase of these creations, honoring freedom’s many forms across cultures and time, and weaving a shared vision of liberation that connects ancestors, ourselves, and future generations.
Youth and Chaperones are invited to attend the Summit at a discount! If you are interested, please click the button below to let us know, and a team member will reach out to you with information on how to complete youth and chaperone registrations.
