April Kigeya
April is the 2nd Vice Chair of the Dane County Board of Supervisors and a proud author of Couch Confessions: The Chronicles of a Black Woman in Therapy, a raw and humorous memoir about healing, identity, and navigating life as a Black woman. Passionate about supporting children, families, and underrepresented communities, April is deeply committed to amplifying voices that are often overlooked or silenced.
She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Danes and is a member of the Executive Committee for the Democratic Party of Dane County. In 2020, she was named one of Wisconsin’s Most Influential Black Leaders. She made history as the first person of color to serve on the Middleton Police Commission and held the role of Co-Chair from 2021–2022.
April brings lived experience, policy expertise, and emotional depth to every room she enters. She is also a PhD candidate in Business Administration at Edgewood University, where her research focuses on race, politics, and the shifting landscape of DEI in America.
